Not stupid AT ALL! If the patch is waterproof enough in the shower, who would know it’s not waterproof in the pool, lake etc 🤷🏽‍♀️ Thanks for the heads up. Those of us without a pool in the backyard now know for vacations etc. Thanks for being vulnerable Renee and educating those of us who didn’t know as well.

I experienced surgical menopause at 42 and I had no idea about that. I’m now 56 and have been in hormone replacement this whole time and never knew that. We all learn something new everyday 😊

You are certainly not dumb. How would you know if nobody tells you! Glad you got it figured out!

Ok, I’m a retired nurse, worked OBGYN 10 years, TVH followed by estrogen patch for 11 years……….never knew this. I thought it was water proof, too 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have worn an HRT biweekly patch for the past 22 years after a hysterectomy. I live in Florida, our development has a pool, and I swim 3-5 times per week. I also frequently take Epsom salt baths. I have never had an issue with my patches getting wet in a pool or from taking a bath. I looked it up on line and read the HRT instruction sheet, both said you can take a shower, take a bath and swim with this patch.

I can't believe nobody told you about covering the patch when they prescribed it for you. What about people who like baths? It seems like something that should have been told to you by your doctor. I would have foolishly made the same assumption so it's not foolish at all. Thank you for warning the rest of us. You look beautiful and youthful and radiant. I'm glad the patch is working so well for you!

I looked at the FAQ (on GoodRx) on the Estradiol patch and the answer to the question “Can I swim or take a bath while wearing the patch?” is “It depends. You shouldn’t swim, take a bath or use a sauna if you use the once-weekly version of the estradiol patch, as this could affect how your body absorbs the medication. These activities are safe to do if you use the twice-weekly patches.”
So an alternative to applying the bandage on top, is to use the twice-weekly version in the summer and switch back to the weekly in non-swimming weather.
I’m not yet in need of the patch, but not too far behind you, Renee. Sorry that you had to learn this the difficult way, but THANK YOU for sharing so that others can learn it before issues arise. You’ve helped many! ❤

I would have thought the same thing! If you can shower, you can swim. You are not alone in thinking that.

Thank you for sharing your story. None of us have gone through menopause before so any information is helpful and I appreciate you.

Renee! You are NOT stupid. I would of presumed the same thing that the patch would of been water proof. I'm glad you had the issue fixed. Menopause symptoms are no fun. I didn't laugh at you either! You are a special good person. Thank you for all of your posts on your life. You have helped me with flower tips, household ideas and I just plain like who you are! Take care dear. ❤😊

I am so glad you posted this video! How could it be dumb if they tell us we can wear it in the shower? I think A LOT of us got an education by watching this! Thank you Renee! We have a vacation planned and I need to buy those waterproof band aids!

Hi Renee - THANK YOU!!! Your hysterectomy videos are so incredibly helpful. I watched them ahead of my surgery (just had it Dec 3) - and followed all of your tips for prep, and post-op. I live in Calgary, Canada - and our health care system is quite minimal. As a result I only had one 20 min call with my surgeon before surgery when we decided to do the hysterectomy. My surgery went really well - and my recovery is progressing well. Because of your video, I requested the Estrodial patch and was able to advocate for myself with my surgeon and family doctor. I started it immediately after surgery. I’m still having some sleep issues - and have some post op pain/discomfort - but it doesn’t compare with the chronic pain I had pre surgery. Thank you again - your transparency about your journey was invaluable to me.

Renee, I’ve have been using an estrogen patch for about four years now and I had no idea that it isn’t waterproof since we can wear it in the shower🤷‍♀️ Thank you for sharing this. I don’t have a pool but in the colder months, we use our hot tub daily.

I am so thankful that you posted this video. I am about a month behind you on my journey and have mirrored your experience in a lot of ways. I am also on the Estradiol patch and I had no idea that you couldn't go swimming with it! I would never have known, so I am so grateful to you for sharing this. And thank you for sharing your whole hysterectomy journey. 🙏🏻 It has been a great help to me.

OMG. Just started hrt and it worked great the first week. I went swimming the 2nd week and thought it wasn't working. Thank you so much for sharing.

🤪 I would have never thought of it not being waterproof being you shower with it on. I am 64 and had to have a total hysterectomy at 30, I was also given a patch to wear, but after several years on the patch my doctor took me off of it and said I was through menopause. So I was shocked to find out that your doctor said your high cholesterol was hormone driven. I never had a problem with cholesterol until after I was taken off the patch, I currently take 2 medications to keep mine down, not perfect but down. I will definitely talk with my doctor about this. Thanks so much for sharing your information. Also, no one told me coming off HRT would cause me to age faster..

Thank you so very much, from a Floridian who swims with an estradiol patch. I didn't know until today. Went and bought my waterproof bandaids today. You are the best!
