As a Turk i have to say this you should drink rakı with appetizers there is a whole culture about rakı appetizers and when you a new rakı drinker you drink it with a glass of şalgam too

Cool that you avoided "yeni rakı". It is popular but far from the best. the one you tried is really nice.
Also half Tequila half Şalgam shots are super delicious. You should try it if you get the chance.

Raki, Arak, Ouzo, Pastis, Absinthe, Sambuca are all very similar drinks from different countries.

raki is basically rakija but is call in different ways like raki Rakia or rakija is basically from the Balkans

dude you drink rakı way too fast! i mean you can but traditionally when we sit to drink rakı we take our time and consume it with lots of food. also, some of us drink like one sip of rakı and one sip of şalgam, both together. enjoy your trip and drink TURŞU SUYU (Pickle juice) and Ayran (yogurt drink), Şerbet-Hoşaf as well.
