]New Ukulele Tutorials every Wednesday and Saturday
Today we are going to talk about how music works. Understanding how music works will help you not only play music, but how to make music work for you. It is knowing how intervals create melody, how they interact with chords, how they interact with the scale they come from, it is an understanding music, of tensions and release, of discord and resolution, really the interval and its use is the foundation of all music theory. You can also make the argument that the 3rd is the most important of all intervals because it is the interval that defines a triad. The 1st and the 5th are the same, it is the 3rd that will let you know if the chord is major or minor, it is the 3rd that gives the chord its color, it is the 3rd that gives the chord its life. So much so that the 3rd interval, along with the 7th is referred to as a guide tone in jazz music and is frequently targeted by jazz players improvising.
For the lesson we will start with the theory by showing you what the 3rd is, how to find the 3rds in a major scale, how to use that information to know all the chords in the major scale. After that we will apply this new information first with a rhythm lesson, showing you how to use 3rds to layer your playing, then it is lead where we show you how these intervals can be incorporated into your solos. The vide just as a preview of this as I jam with the A minor pentatonic mixed with the 3rds, but the tabs with Patreon has a 4 measure solo broken down for you to see. The last thing we will do in the lesson is show you how these concepts can be applied to melody and how can use them to layer our melodies as well.
