I love how all the pundits are pretty much universal in critisizing the players but absolutely ignore the fact that the Southgate as a coach is one of the inept coaches in world football.

A proper manager would get the best out of Trent, Foden etc

Trent's greatest strength is his passing repertoire. He needs guys running wide and running in behind. With Foden constantly cutting into the middle, Kane constantly dropping in to the middle, and Trippier unwilling to bomb forward, and you leave Trent with no forward or wide options. What do you have him on the field at that point for? If you're not going to send wingers wide and make runs in behind, then yes, take Trent off. But let's actually look to make some forward runs and you'll see what Trent has to offer. For Denmark, Gordon has to start for Foden. I'd even start Watkins for Kane. Give Trent some forward options and sit back and watch the magic

Maybe Gordon or Palmer would provide more spark. Maybe Wharton might complement Rice more, even though he lacks experience. Walker almost created a second goal in the first half, and Kane hit the bar in the second. I am always nervous when England are protecting a 1-0 lead, which was their downfall in WC 2018 and Euro 2021.

Adam Wharton is a great defensive midfielder and a good partner for Rice. If they played in front of a back three, it would allow England to play three attacking midfielders where the have plenty of options while having a solid defensive line up.

I don’t normally agree with souness but he’s on point here, Trent is not a midfielder, he may have some characteristics as a midfielder but yesterday a few time rice had to get him out danger, he’s more of an hybrid as a fullback 🤷

Once we were 1-0 up perhaps a Jordan Henderson type figure to help keep the ball, slow down the play, calm the nerves and coordinate the flow of play would have been useful. We need a metronome in the team that controls the ebb-and-flow of the play. We already have a playmaker in Jude Bellingham. Perhaps Declan Rice could take on that sort of midfield general role?
