Whether we agree or not about TAA starting I think his treatment at the hands of Southgate gives us a great insight as to just how regressive Southgate is. Trent, and he has his weaknesses, is still the kind of player that sees the positive front foot opportunities moment to moment while Southgate only ever sees the negative.

They mentioned all the reasons why Trent should be in the team, most assists by any English player in the last year, the generational talent comparison with Paul Scholes, and still came to the wrong conclusion. It boggles the mind, Trent would start in any team in world football, so how he doesn't get in this mediocre England team is beyond me.
