Great way of explaining this. You completely answered my question. The only thing I can think of that could be a negative is in our case we are getting very close to monetization hours and my older videos do contribute to some of that watch time, so I think I'll wait until we get monetized to turn those videos to private. It makes a lot of sense what you're saying here! I've gone back and forth between deleting older videos or keeping them, because the quality of them is so different. But I guess there is no harm in that and there is no harm in people being able to see your growth. I guess it's also a motivation to keep creating more and better videos, that way the ratio of good/bad is better haha!

I recently transitioned from making travel vlogs to more self-improvement and social media content. I removed my most popular videos, which hurt, but it actually HELPED my channel and suddenly I was getting MORE views per day overall, because presumably Youtube now knew better what kinds of people to recommend my videos to.

Thank you, this answered my question. I’ve been playing around with different kinds of videos and finally one niche has decided to perform outstandingly well compared to the others. I’m glad I didn’t stick to one niche but now I’m going to hide my old content for continuity’s sake.

I watched your guys video on picking a niche and the advice, "find something you can see yourself talking about in five years". So I changed my niche from fashion/beauty hauls to fitness and wellness and I'm hoping the algorithm starts helping me because my views dropped but I'm just going to continue to be consistent and I'm hoping I'll start growing again!
