Have you ever wondered what it's like to take a 911 call for a house fire? Here is exactly what's it like. This video was produced with the help of several fire agencies and 911 telecommunications from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

Good video but why was only one engine dispatched to smoke in a garage? When we are dispatched in St. Louis county for a call like that it’s a first alarm. Now the first due engine has his hands full until the other companies arrive. As chief Dick of the Black Jack fire district use to say “better to have them in route and not need them than to need them and not have them”.

Interesting to see. There is a lot of radio com and manual tasks for the dispatcher involved. Here In Europe, stuff is more automated. We'll get all needed infos send to our pager and an alarm app on our smartphone. The app doubles as a GPS taking the address over to either Google or Apple Maps depending on your device. Status updates like which vehicle is en route or has now arrived is done via status button on the radio and automatically visible on the dispatchers computer.

The only thing would say is the original call gave me enough information where I would have paged this out as a structure fire. Once there was a confirmed structure fire it would be upgraded to a working fire/all hands.

Awesome to see. In Vance County NC we run three houses (county and 2 closest vollie depts which now are all combos) to any residential alarms. Smoke pumping out a house would be initially dispatched as a structure fire, with confirmation resulting in instant fire attack by first due with full assignment dispatch for all hands (county rescue, EMS, LEO). Great video, thank you for showing us how each great community does it! :)

It’s great to know how fast 9-1-1 dispatchers send help, it’s make the difference between life and death.

Nice to see how fires are paged out! They make it look so easy! Realize this is a dramatization, in my center, it is a one person operation at night, 2 during the day. If I page out a fire, I am trying to do it while trying to answer a dozen or more 911 calls about it, or maybe one of them is an unrelated ambulance call, while calling utility companies, notifying LE for traffic or immediate rescue if they are first on scene. I can imagine Hennepin County SO has multiple dispatchers on all of the time, considering there are over 1.2 million people in the county. I can't imagine the mayhem that ensues on a busy day if they handle all of the 911 calls for EMS, Fire, and LE.

This was greatly executed, this helps me learn more about 911 dispatchers and what their job is as I recently put in a job application for becoming a 911 dispatcher, prayerfully I do get this position because I always had a passion for becoming a 911 dispatcher, I’m nervous about interviews though because sometimes I mess up on them. 🙏🙏🙏Pray for me everyone 🙏🙏

❤👍 no questions asked, everyone loves the firefighters when it's your time. Where would be without emergency hotlines!! The crap love them. As we do more than we are obligated.... I dream until no one will do this job

Kudos to 911 dispatchers. I feel alot of time they arent seen as important as the ones on the front line. They have a very stressful job and it requires them to be on it 100%. Im a Responder and I wouldnt want their job!
