World's Smallest and Tallest Woodworking Bench...

I don't have much space in my workshop and not enough for a full size woodworking bench. So I made the "Altar of Thor" woodworking bench so that I had a platform to hammer on, a kind of woodworking anvil.

I wanted the bench to be high so I didn't have to bend over to use it, and to be solid enough that I could chisel bits of wood on it without it flinching.

Includes a homage to @Paul.Sellers who has inspired me to ditch the power tools and take up hand woodworking.

Thanks Richard, an interesting project and a great intro, as you acknowledged not the ideal solution, but a useful surface to beat on that doesn't take up too much floorspace, I love the idea of a wood anvil. You did really well with the carving with that dry and open grained softwood, I think I might have taken the easier option of carving the detail rather than leaving it in relief, but yours looks better for sure !

Nice build! I think you could get rid of a lot of movement by bolting it down to a piece of scrap plywood large enough for you to stand on while you are working. Might be useful especially if you need to do a lot of planing.

At 12:10 or so you mention this is for people with limited space a need to hit things with hammers. Would it also work for things with limited space a need to hit people with hammers? Asking for a friend...

I think the word for which you're searching to describe the "Altar of Thor" is "lectern". (At long last, a Catholic education actually hits a mark!)
