Poking holes in the inside actually prevents air bubbles in clay so ur sculpture doesnt explode/crack while firing

Yes poking holes on the inside does help! Our professor taught us that in ceramics at university 😅

I feel like this is the better way I’ve seen it done. I’ve seen people do this but after they’ve fully detailed the piece so they have to go back and do a lot of delicate retexturing at the seams. Looks like you got a decent bit of detail but still have a good bit of refining before it would be done. It’s a beautiful piece. I wish I had the space to work with clay on a larger scale.

I was told the holes were so that if there were air bubbles, it would crack inside the sculpture rather than push its way to the surface. Im sure its also good for drying faster and even too.

I love videos like this because they remind me of my grandma! She's an amazing artist and used to do a lot of clay sculpting like this, we have a good number of her works still kicking around
