When you resize the line object, you can use the Free Transform tool (shortcut E key) and it will add a bounding box with corner and side nodes. Hold Shift while dragging a corner node to maintain proportion. It's not necessary to fiddle with the Properties panel.

If you do this with "Scale Strokes & Effects" (in the Transform panel drop-down menu) turned on, the stroke weight and zigzag values will scale along with the size.

Properties panel is good for transforming to specific dimensions, though

I've always just followed Paul Rand's advice to just try to be good: good design. The fancy visual tricks and textural beauty are things I've always deferred, quite successfully, though with a tinge of regret.
