You can use the sun to heat water ... I even had a system set up where I just got a dark green hose and put it on one of those hose hanger things so it got lots of sun, put a spray nozzle on there because that water came out HOT and would take a bath using that on my deck made of pallets. It was a great system but what if I'm living in a rented single room with a communal shower? Well I can still put water out in dark colored containers and bring those in and wash right up. Make all your lighting LED. If you have an electric stove, get an Iwatani butane stove or even a couple of them if you're used to cooking on more than one burner (or get their larger commercial model) I get like 10 days out of a canister of butane and that's cooking and heating laundry water. The canister costs me $1.50. There are ways to cut way way down on electricity use.

Are we surprised??? This has been going on for years! Rate hikes - they say to improve reliability - but power outages occur for no reason all the time.
Schatz is all talk - he’s never made a difference.
