Additionally, the PORT command is used (yes, mainly in FTP-active mode) to specify the destination port. The FTP server will send the data over FTP from Port 20 (source port) to the port specified using the PORT command (destination port)

That may be the case. Just saying that Port 20 is the Official FTP-data port specified by IANA

@fnmatrix The use of port 20 depends on whether you're using active mode or passive mode FTP. Both modes, client makes control connection from random unprivileged port N where N>1023 to port 21 on the FTP server. Active mode, the server makes data connections from port 20 to port N+1 on the client. Passive mode, port 20 normally doesn't get used. Client makes data connection from N+1 to a random high port the server chooses.

@HWGuyEG Aye, because websites are often hosted on more than one machine at a time, and FTP's two channel thingy doesn't play with that so well. VPS and VDS? Haven't heard of those.

@qiranger FTP, good for moving massive trees of files and directories. Not always so easy to handle if you have a NAT firewall at either end. UUCP, wow. Haven't even heard that word in over a decade.
