I have claw toe and Dr. chose to do Grand toe, with a metal rod! I'm still recouping after 3 weeks! Wish I knew of this surgery

Watching this made my toes feel better. I’ve got backward ‘S’ hammertoes and they usually don’t bother me but for the first time I have developed a small corn right on the tip bottom of the one toe. Man, it’s uncomfortable. I get tiny corns on my feet but never on the toes themselves.
My one question about doing this procedure is, don’t you need those tendons in tact for regular walking or gripping?

What would be more amazing would be to know what causes this ailment so I can change my behavior to avoid it or cure it.

I had this procedure on 2 toes, but the Dr used a large injection needle as the slicing tool. No problems sense, no rehab time. Other Drs told me it would not work.
