To automatically insert the timestamp into a cell in Excel there is a smart technique using circular reference. You can insert the timestamp and when the cell value is changed you can update the timestamp too.

Thank you for this, very useful.

The file I wish to use this for is shared.
Does the 'enable iterative calculation' need to be updated by each respective user in their own Excel in order for it to work for them, or will updating this from the shared document be enough?

The formula is indeed helpful though I haven't tried it yet. Would it be possible for you to provide an explanation detailing the formulation of the formula?

Thank you so much. If I need it to check the whole of each row (e.g B11:AZ11) for changes and then time stamps in the A11. How would I do this?

The formula works perfectly! I'm still curious how the formula actually works because it's difficult to understand it completely

Just a small doubt. Once the timestamp is done in column B, can it be manually changed or edited, without making any changes to column A?

Thank u Sir. kindly can u teach what to do to stamp clock time in successive rows automatically after every second for say 100 rows. i.e. if 09:00 is in 1st row then 2nd row will stamp 09:01 and 3rd will stamp 09:02 and so on.

Great video! However, I am not looking for an entire Column of timestamps. I want just one Cell to contain the timestamp and I want it to update when a range of cells are edited. Is this possible please?

I am trying to use the formula for everytime a cell is edited it gives a time and date stamp, this shows an example of checking one cell, I need it to check 3 cells in each row for changes and then time stamps in the 4th. So the formula needs to check C3-E3 and then put the date/time stamp in F3. How would i do this?

So, I've tried it out and it almost works perfectly. The issue I'm having is the timestamp updates when I edit any cell, not just the specified cell. Why do you think that would happen, any suggestions to fix?

This formula works great in Excel. But when I transfer over to one drive, the time stamp shows up at 1/00/1900 00:00. In OneDrive, any change also changes every time stamp, not just the one cell. How can I get this to work in OneDrive?

It doesn't work when the cell is modified automatically.
