While Shigeru Miyamoto also believed that this game was good, he thought the story was too serious for a Mario game. He also thought that Rosalina's storybook was a distraction. (He did like it, yes, but he felt like the story made the game focus too much on Rosalina more than Mario)

The team who worked on Mario Galaxy wanted to reveal more about Rosalina in the sequel but they gave up their plan after hearing Shigeru Miyamoto's opinions. Which is why they made Galaxy 2 a retelling of Mario Galaxy 1.

However, little did Shigeru Miyamoto know, we missed the seriousness (and heartwarming) from this game and would want to see it again, in just one other Mario game.
