In antiquity, this person would have taught the community these skills, which was undoubtedly to the betterment of the group; today, our system showcases thinkers as a circus act and their knowledge is reserved for the purpose of educating those that already have a leg up. So it's honestly a no-brainer to place the "loser" label squarely on the shoulders of society as a whole.

I was just thinking about how I sucked at maths then I see this

I used to have a friend that was able to do this to absurd degree, like 48 times 83 and it took like max 5 seconds to come up with the answer. Every single time I needed calculator he had already given to correct answer before I got my phone pulled out.

This is impressive as hell I wish I would’ve had the dedication that he had to learn math. The way he did. I legit always hated math growing up. The only time I didn’t was when it was involving money other than that, I wasn’t the greatest lol

ok listen guys the speed math is really impressive and all, although it is absolutely a trainable skill.

but I just wanna say that the dividing by single digit numbers is mostly a memory trick. the decimals of all divisions under 10 have an extremely easy pattern to remember:

/2, .5
/3, multiples of
/4, multiples of .25
/5, multiples of .2
/6, multiples of
/7, repeating string of .142857-, where you start in the string depends on the fraction
/8, multiples of .125
/9, multiples of

even just above 10, it's still not that hard

/11, multiples of .09090909-
/12, multiples of

the harder ones really start coming in at /13, /17, and above, since prime number divisors convert to decimals in a really unfortunate way except for 2, 3, and 5.

/7 is just a 6-digit repeating string, but /13 is a particular 6-digit repeating string for some divisions, a different one for other divisions, and /17 is a 16-digit repeating string with similar conditions to /13. it only gets worse from there.

if you're a normal person, memorising a string of 6 digits isn't going to be very hard; for most people that's about half of their own phone number. so go forth with this knowledge and be labelled a nerd at parties
