In this video I will show you how to replace a main sewer line for ONLY $490.
I spent $490 for all materials and drain cleaner rental. I took me 4 days to dig the trench, replace pipes and fill in the trench.

Great job, two suggestions next time you do it maybe in 50 years, put sand underneath the pipe to prevent it from settling, and instead of no hub fittings get PVC couplings. Great job nice video

I had a crushed pipe section from roots. Got an estimates from $2000 to $2500 to replace. Dug up were it was crushed and cut it out and replaced in 2 hours. $50 for materials. You were smart to add second clean out for most home built in the last 30 years in Florida have this.

Just a tip to add to this.... BEFORE putting dirt back in trench you should lay a bed of gravel under pipe and then around pipe. This keep the backfill you put in to fill trench from sinking weeks down the road and leaving a trench!

Damn that looked pretty easy. Other parts of the country have deeper sewer lines and new builds have no sewage connection. And some are underneath concrete.

Great job 👍. I was quoted 23k to replace my main line and I did it myself for around $950 lol. The only thing I would have done different in your scenario is use a ferco coupling with metal sheathing. They are just a few dollars more.

Thanks for posting this. My parents just found out that their 60 year old cast iron pipe is collapsing. First estimate was $26K! I'm considering options to say the least.

PVC to clay pipe can be connected by using a pvc to clay fernco. Or you can use a hulk fitting but they are expensive.

Just had my sewer line replaced from the out side of the house to the street by an installer. In your area the soil is very soft and mine is all clay and rock. Could never dig through it by hand. Need a backhoe. Next it has to be inspected by the sewage authority. The project cost me 6, 000.00 because of tree roots. If I ever buy another house again I will see where all the utilities in the ground are before I buy.

I think you did great! Plumbers and such are going to be very critical as do it yourselfers they want the jobs and they of course are going to be extra critical of what do it yourselfers do. We have pipes that need replacing underground....already been wuoted a price of $4, 000....thats a lot!

Thank you, this was a great video. I thought of one thing that could be helpful when filling the trench back in. Perhaps laying sections of plastic sheeting down while you're digging the trench will make it easier to slide or push the dirt back into the trench at the end.

Hey besides a hackzall / Sawzall, you should consider getting/using a "grinder/cut-off wheel" tool for cutting pipes in the future for sewer/water-line jobs. Sometimes it's helpful/easier. especially for cutting out the old clay or iron. sawzall and hackzall are fine for cutting pvc, but you need a grinder/cut-off wheel for cutting iron or clay.
