This is crazy because my wife's goldfish she won at a fair died the other day, it lived 25 long years in a home aquarium, the maintenance was insane.

I won a goldfish at the fair when I was around 7/8.
We didn't actually have anywhere to keep it but I really wanted one so my grandad agreed to keep it in his tank so I'd still get to see it because we visited a lot.
That fish lived for years and grew fairly large, it was wild 😂

I had a goldfish that survived for five years in its tank

Either I got lucky or the fish was healthier than other household fish. I dunno

In the 80s my uncle had a goldfish that grew to be the size of a large soup mug before he had to give it away to a friend

As a huge aquarist myself, I love this video. Very informal and shows people the truth of goldfish. Goldfish aren’t necessarily a beginner fish and people don’t realize they need so much space.

Correct title: Don’t throw a live goldfish into the lake.

We've only ever flushed dead fish. Never a live fish. That's just cruel.

Everytime you said native American fish it made me laugh because it made me imagine a bunch of fish talking and acting like my Rez cousins 😂

Toilets do not lead to rivers and lakes, sewage goes to treatment plants where its filtered and treated and fish cannot reach waterways though them. As for fish size, I had a goldfish in a tropical tank and that thing grew like mad and also ate all the small fish in the tank but it eventually met its end when the freshwater blue lobster in the tank finally got hold of it

Couldn't people fish for Gold fish though especially if they can get to be up to 10 pounds? They could sell them in Grocery Stores also.

I’ve had plenty of goldfish in my life. Sometimes up to 10+ at a time. But I know for a fact I had one that lived for nearly 7 years. He was the biggest one so it was easy to point him out amongst the rest. Was very sad when he finally died 😔RIP Captain Tide

Same point: don’t put a betta in a bowl without filtration and a heater also. They won’t live merely as long as they would if they had both.

You don't explain how flushing a fish into a sanitary sewage system that most commonly goes to a treatment plant for processing & filtering of solid waste allows for the fish to be in a waterway. It is illegal to directly dump a human waste system into a public creek, lake, wash or any other ways that holds or conveys fresh or salt water without treating to safe levels first.

I had a goldfish that lived for ten years before he became so big I couldn't clean the tank properly because he was just too difficult to deal with.
I let him go in the nearby Marriott hotels front pond display that had fish in it as well, the staff must have wondered where a giant goldfish appeared from.
Every once in awhile I would go there and see how he was doing

Flushing a dead fish is usually for peace of mind for the little kid who owned the fish. I guess you could also just bury it and have a little funeral. Usually when I think of goldfish I think of it like a little kid's first pet

I've had my gold fish for about 12 yrs and it's about 7in long and it has a catfish to play with 11yrs old. The only fish I flush is a dead fish moral of the story only flush dead fish.
