NEW Alpine A290 (2025) Sound, Drive and Design

Alpine has unveiled the Alpine A290, marking a significant step into the era of electric sports cars. This new model embodies Alpine’s core principles of performance, agility, and lightweight design while showcasing French craftsmanship. The Alpine A290, a compact and agile urban sportscar, serves as the entry point into Alpine’s fully electric “Dream Garage.” The lineup will expand with a GT C-Crossover and a new A110, all emphasizing the brand’s commitment to an electric future. With a platform derived from the Ampere and integrated energy services like Mobilize Power and V2G recharging, the Alpine A290 is designed for optimal home recharging and a seamless driving experience.

The Alpine A290 retains the driving sensations beloved in the A110 but adapts them for urban use. Its advanced design, high-performance features, and extensive connectivity options make it a versatile choice for a wide range of customers. The vehicle is manufactured in Douai, with its electric motor produced in Cléon and the battery set to be made in France from summer 2025. This model aims to attract both performance enthusiasts and those prioritizing style, positioning Alpine as a leader in the electric sports car market.

I agree that the second sound did sound a bit like a washing machine. Wasn't keen on either sound. Other than that, I love it. I want one.

Speaking as an iPace and A110 owner I am totally disappointed. This is doing a Ford/Seat by using their performance name to make the new EV line appear juicier

Renault 5 turbo was small and nimble little fighter. A machine with over the top power for it's time. So let's make something nostalgic but bigger - a crossover - because everyone loves crossovers and because there is not enough of them on the market. Maybe also something heavier because comfort and AIDs are at the center of every sports inspired car - EV is also know being lightweight. Also everyone loves artificial stuff. I.e sound, gears, sport modes, vents, wings. Artificial sound worked so well for downsized 2-3cyl engines so it will definitely work for EVs. In reality it's just unneeded noise inside and outside and unneeded weight. (Yes sports car were/are loud but it was because there was no compromise on performance and no one cared to much about it being quiet).
