I can't get over how fortunate "we" are to have you on this trip and for you to be sharing it with us. There has been more than one, I'm sure, but I'd call this an experience of a lifetime. Thanks, Chris!

History has tended to paint the Norse as nothing more than bloodthirsty marauders, a reputation of which they were fully aware (and maaaybe even a little proud). But what many fail to realize is just how ingenious they were. They were skilled navigators, relying on the stars for guidance. Their knowledge of the sea combined with their curious nature ultimately led them well out of their Scandinavian homelands for the decidedly exotic shores of the Mediterranean, Ireland and the British Isles, the island that would one day be home to a country called Iceland and, ultimately, to North America, specifically Greenland and Canada. Their longships were the height of maritime technology of the day. And their craftsmanship, particularly in wood and iron, was exquisite, a talent that seems to have carried over to their Icelander, Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish descendants. They were a truly remarkable people, a European culture caught in that transitional period from Antiquity to Medieval that all too often gets overlooked. Great video, man. I'm glad the Norwegians have peeled back the veil of time and given us this tiny sliver of Viking life for us to visit and enjoy.

That backdrop was gorgeous. Would love to see it. But it won’t happen in this lifetime. Great to see your video of it though. Thanks so much.
