Back when I was a kid, my chess teacher explained us that if you meet a king you should bow. However, if two kings meet and both bow, they will headbutt eachother. Thus, they can never be next to each other.

That pawn on d4 was an isolated pawn weakness, but we didn’t realize it wasn’t just a physical weakness… As soon as Hikaru took the pawn, Vidit was so overcome with sadness that he threw his king right on Hikaru’s sword! Emotional weaknesses cannot be underestimated.

Reminds me of a story Ben Finegold told when he was a kids tournament arbiter. He was asked to look at these kids' game, and after he asked "Where are your kings?", the kids replied: "Oh, we exchanged them long ago!"
