As a Japanese, I love how the shop owner speaks. His Japanese is old, courteous and has affluent expression.

I always enjoy seeing someone talk about their craft, doesn’t really matter what it is, it’s pleasant to see the pride and attention to detail people put into it.

I could watch and listen to both of these gentlemen for hours. Gentility and respect are to be cherished and seem so rare these days it’s mesmerizing.

I love to see masters showing others their craft in this way as it makes you to stop any noice you can control and focus into their craft.

And this master is one of the finest craftsmen on the planet, thank you for showing this to us or how the Japanese would put it Dōmo arigatōgozaimashita which means Thank you very much.

"My handwriting is awful."

Proceeds to write in English better than most Americans.

In India when we cross the 4th or 5th grade you are asked to switch from pencil to pen for writing and taking notes/ homework and exams. Most schools do not permit ballpoint pens. We are asked to used fountain pens only. We carry ink cartages to school and refill at the end of they day. Learning to write in fountain pens helps develop a good handwriting and promotes good penmanship . or so is the theory

"Typically I tell people to write something they have written hundreds of times, like a social security number, bank account number, credit card number and cvv, the usual"

It might be lost in how great of a salesman he is but everything he says is 100% accurate. That’s a deadly combination in the world of business

Writing is an art in Japan. The stroke order and technique is very important to them.

Man Walks into a fountain pen shop

Welcome sir, are you looking for a fountain pen?
