Please watch more NileRed videos! They're amazing. They might not always involve nuclear stuff, but I'd love more people to react to Nigel's content

Hearing him talk about Nigel's preciseness in his NileRed videos and NileBlue's cleanup videos made me giggle. We're going to need a reaction to some of NileBlue's more chaotic videos 🤣

NileRed actually went on a podcast about a year ago to talk about doing chemistry on YouTube and there was an entire segment where he talked about the whole uranium thing, much to the shock of the hosts, and he even mentions calling the Canadian government after the fact to make sure he didn’t just do anything illegal. The podcast is called “Trash Taste” and the highlight in question is called “Asking the Government Permission to Make Uranium Glass” if you wanna check it out

I really like his clean up videos, because that's actually the biggest hurdle that prevents me from performing a lot of home chem experiments. Otherwise I just do mostly nontoxic stuff, and will not touch any chrome or mercury stuff. If it can't be flushed I avoid it.

"Something about the precise way he handles his materials"

For everyone who's watched NileRed for a little longer, this sounds absolutely hilarious. x>

Though to be fair, he can be very precise when he really needs to be.

Something I thought of while watching Nigel's video was his fume cabinet filter. Because a few times during his filmed process I saw small plumes of uranium dust kick up which was presumably caught in the filter. It's probably not particularly hazardous but maybe a small oversight when the time comes for filter replacement.

This is all very similar to how we deal with pesticide contamination in agriculture and horticulture.

Of course, since we're dealing with pesticides, the hazardous material is supposed to be sprayed on plants and will get on the surface of soil. But the proper procedures for handling pesticides are to have 100% of the hazardous material get on the plants so that there will be no leftover waste to end up in the drain or on gloves and towels.

Nearly all pesticides are solved in water so they can be sprayed and are very highly diluted. Which means that all the water we use to rinse cups, syringes, stirring rods, and gloves can go into the tank of the sprayer as well. At the end we rinse and flush the sprayer with clear water, which is then disposed of in the area that has already been covered in the hazardous substance.

Most permitted pesticides have the ability to be broken down by the plants that absorbed them or by soil bacteria into harmless reaction products. So the affected area will decontaminate itself in a matter of days. (At least the chemical companies assure us that it does.) But this might not be the case if the contaminant goes straight into waste water or a landfill. Which makes it necessary to not produce any contaminated waste.

Grinding uranium yellow cake. Probably THE most dangerous step.

Taking off gloves without touching contaminated outer surface is a skill.

NileRed is always a pleasure to watch, and he seems to have a similar mindset towards work safety as you all that work in nuclear facilities do. The wonderfully thorough (some may even say excessive in other industries) safety procedures make me happy. It probably is the reason that nuclear energy has one of the lowest death rates in all energy sectors.

In my opinion NileRed is what the Radioactive Boyscout might have been if he had somebody to guide him.

I agree that NileRed's videos are very soothing, especially considering just how calming his voice is, when compared with the calming presence of his safety procedures that don't make you feel like you're overprotected.

I love the comment from a scientist to a scientist effectively saying, it’s so lovely and calming hearing another scientist using proper scientific method to perform an experiment, with correct risk assessment and all required specialised safeguards in place, plus Nile is absolutely awesome!

I think NileRed is the absolute opposite to Cody'sLab, when it comes to anything safety.
Unfortunately his videos on how he refines Uranium Ore are now set private - otherwise it would have been interesting to see your reaction.

Isn‘t he they guy which called the government and they told him he could put it in the trashbin but he shouldn't do it even if its legal.

Have you watched any of Plainly Difficult's videos? He does a lot of stuff on radiological incidents with a ton of info directly from the IAEA reports.
