It seems as though everyone wants a new pickup right now and because they’re profit margin darlings the OEMs keep ‘em coming and the segment that’s getting the most attention these days is the small to midsize trucks, particularly those with off-road credentials like this all-new GMC Canyon AT4.

MSRP as-tested: $48,710

Honest and thorough review without droning on for 20 minutes. Nice job, Steve. Would love to hear your take on the 2024 Subaru Impreza RS.

Great review Steve! Another midsized priced out of my affordability range. Seems like a decent truck overall

Great Review! Very surprised though you found the ride quality rougher than the Frontier. I found the AT4 to be the smoothest ride.

I wouldn't say this was a great review. The MT tires can be added as a option. All but the entry level Canyon come standard with 4 wheel drive.

Seems to me you were set on not liking the Canyon from the start.

If I’m spending over 40 for a small to midsize truck I would go for the Tacoma for the reliability. And 60k is insane money on this truck.

did they delete the ambient lighting that they had in previous gen?

Im from canada, the price differences are bigger between cars and trims....yet the vhevrolet zr2 came out to only 4 or 5 k more costly then the gmc at4....notice i didnt add the X after at4.

Ofc the configurations were both done to my preferences, but regardless.

Its not worth the over pricing...

Not gonna lie, the AT4 you drove is almost completely opposite from the new '23 AT4 I got a week ago. I have none of these gripes or problems that you have. It drives like a car and is incredibly smooth lol

You can say it's not as smooth as the Nissan V6, but it'll absolutely suck it's headlights out in a race (or more appropriately) or towing.
I was 80% sure I was getting a Frontier Pro 4x until I drove my Colorado Trail Boss. It cost 10k less and looks and feels 10 years newer than the Nissan. The solution to this is NOT to buy a GMC. It's an extra $10k of unnecessary options in every trim level.

It’s nice, but too expensive for most of us blue collar people

Steve, when will you test its GM twin, Chevy Colorado? (Any variation). I equate this AT4 to the Colorado’s Z71.

You seemed to have a negative opinion from the beginning. Do your research across all brands. They are all relatively equally priced and this truck has it all. I don't own one but I've done my research and this truck checks all the boxes. Don't forget the class leading Tacoma has rear drum brakes! Maybe you should watch some reviews from TFL to start.

How's the battery doing today? Shoddy software is going to hurt GMs reputation even further.

If you're buying a mid-size truck, you're not buying a family hauler vehicle. Why does this review make that one of the main reasons not to get it? From my understanding it has more backset room them most other mid-size trucks.

You can get a really nice Colorado ZR2 for the same money as a Canyon AT4

Tech is great, but 67k$ isn't worth it. I prefer previous basic and affordable Generation Colorado/Canyon. They are simple they get the job done and are great in snow.

The GMC Canyon is good looking but "If I was really into offroading..." I would buy a Jeep Gladiator 😎
