All bakers make mistakes, but they don't have to keep us down! Our very own Kye Ameden is here to help you Bake It Better, in a new video series that shows beginners and pros alike how to avoid the most common mess-ups and misconceptions. In her first episode, Kye demonstrates the art of kneading dough, which can be both easier and trickier than you think.

This video is amazing. There are tons of videos about bread kneading, but Kye's explanations of commonly made mistakes made this the most helpful and informative kneading video I've ever watched. I knew I was doing some things wrong (ahem, aggressive kneading...), but had no clue what or how to fix it. I feel totally enlightened now. She opened my eyes to the errors of my ways! I can't wait to use her techniques next time I bake bread.

This is marvelous for showing pitfalls, which actually shows a spectrum of good activity with "lane markers" for helping "stay in the lane". Wonderful

This was so helpful! I've been using the "kneading too aggressively" method for years and then adding too much flour because the dough was so sticky.

I feel so fortunate to grow up with a Mom who was a skilled home baker as well as a professional chef for my Dad. Learned to cook and bake from the earliest age possible ... Literally from about age 2 on up. Before anyone says anything about the age 2 .. Just think of having your toddler right there with you while you are mixing dough.. shaping bread rolls .. it can start as early as that. It was always a pleasant, bonding time with my parents which promoted a love for doing it myself as each age brought the ability to actually DO more myself. For so long I just took for granted that EVERYONE knew how to do these things.. Baking is such a rewarding adventure on many levels.. whether you are just trying to save money, acquire new skills.. use ingredients you can trust.. fill in when grocery stores are out of items... Make gifts for others.. Have the most delicious baked goods possible.. or work your way up to being a professional .. I have loved baking my entire life.. to anyone just starting out I hope you don't let early mishaps or not quite perfect results discourage you. Chances are you will still have an edible product.. and you have learned from the experience.. Then next time you will be better. Oh gosh.. I am on the verge of a little novella so I will stop... I love that these types of videos are so popular and that people are trying new things .. Everyone ( i think) should know at least the basics.. baking bread, once you get past the intimidation factor, you will find to be quite a simple and straight forward process. PLUS you get freshly baked at home bread ! omg .. one of the truly wonderful things in life.. : ) If you are still with me .. thanks for reading the whole rambling comment.. Stay safe.. Stay well.. and enjoy this time you have to BAKE ! : )

I watched this to learn the "Flour wash technique" for cleaning dough off my hands. It's at 12:50. Thanks Kye.

I use my bowl scrapers a lot for different things but my favorite dough mixing tool is my danish dough whisk. It is my go-to tool for mixing batters.

I'm glad i watched this tutorial! Pretty sure i've been kneading with too much pressure whenever i do knead by hand. This seems much easier 😅

I love these tips. I’ve been making dough for years and never really understood kneading. Or the best way to do it. This has been awesome. I’m anxious for more tips.

I just loved Kye! I would like more videos from her please as she makes bread baking appear so accessible - unlike other people I have seen on videos. I just want to sit down and have a cup of coffee with her and chat about bread. Can you do a video on poolish - when to, when not to and why? Also - the best surface to use in your home kitchen to work your dough - and how best to keep it clean? And a series on 10 of your bread bakers and the top ten favorite tools they have in their home kitchen - which scale do they use? Which bennatons and why? Which mixing bowl - how big>? What material? Which measuring cups? And so on?Thanks
