Basic Concepts of Elementary Mathematics

In this video I will show you a math book that covers a wide variety of topics. This book is very different from your typical algebra or pre-calc book in that it covers different areas of math. It is primarily written for students who want to become teachers or liberal arts majors. I think it's fun to look at math books like this because they are a bit different. I believe this book is out of print but I did manage to find a few copies, the links are below. The book is titled Basic Concepts of Elementary Mathematics and it was written by John M. Peterson.

This is one of the coolest math books I’ve ever seen. I love the amount of flexibility this book has, this looks like a good read for both beginners as well as more experienced math students. As a math major myself who is taking higher level mathematics courses, I would not find this to be a boring read.

I found a basic mathematics book to be extremely beneficial when I was tutoring a fifth grader back in 2017. Thank you for enlightening your views about this level of mathematics and its importance.

1:08 One of the few rare books to have an SBN instead of an ISBN. The 9-digit Standard Book Numbering (SBN) was created in 1966 and had 8 digits and a checksum as a 9th digit. It was replaced by the ISBN 10 (9 digits + checksum) in 1970 and ISBN 13 in 2017.

Those books were made when America was thriving. The 70's was the time of the introduction of "The New Math" with " sets" being taught for the first time to elementary school students..

GREAT VIDEO, MS!!!! I had watched less than two minutes of this video when I decided that I'm gonna get this book next month for my private math library!! :) :) :) :) Oftentimes YOU, Math Sorcerer, have made videos reviewing math books that are so persuasive that I've often decided to buy those very books!! So thank you, MS, for helping to build up my math library--and for consistently but obliquely putting huge dents in my bank account each month. LOL!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Great video, I don’t know if you already covered this book but I think this is a very good book “a concise introduction to pure mathematics”

I hear great things about the Art of Problem Solving series of books. Would you ever do a review of one?

4:05 One of my favorite concepts from Discrete Math. People can argue, but these ideas translate beyond just math terms. If any proposition said to be equal, whether numbers or notions, and does NOT contain ALL of these characteristics, then it is in fact NOT equal. E.g., when saying you accept all people, yet you prevent even one person from your group, you have failed in at least 2 of the required properties and have a BIASED, not an EQUAL view of others. Prevention is neither reflexive nor symmetric, and due to this, probably isn't transitive either. It's a good test of whether someone is spewing BS or actually means what they're saying.

huge fan of your videos and currently going through a mathematical methods book called "Basic Training in Mathematics: A Fitness Program for Science Students" by R. Shankar. I would love it if you reviewed it because its kind of a spivak style of writing that makes tough mathematical concepts easy to understand. I got my physics degree a couple years ago and this is a great refresher. Would love it it if you reviewed it

Wow, this book reminds me of a project I wanted to do: starts out with foundations, then elementary math, calculus, abstract algebra then basic algebraic geometry. It would of course have to be cleverly condensed. But the idea was to introduce laypeople, undergrads and grads depending on their level ie some type theory in foundations.
But I'm always way too busy

Sir please make a video on best books on calculus of variations. Maybe it's the bit of advanced topic but please make a video on this topic.

can you recommend other books like this one that are easier to find?

Cool promotion.
I think It could also work as a review for non-native speakers of English!

Nice. I would do problems from this one just for the fun of it. Kinda like relaxing with a puzzle book.
