NEW Leica M11-P vs Leica M11 Shutter Noise

This video is my answer to questions in comments on my Leica M11-P videos on my channel to the question whether there is any difference in the noise level of the shutter sound of the Leica M11-P versus the Leica M11.

Im a musician / sound engineer. To me the biggest difference is the tone of the shutter. The M11 has a much brighter tone while the M11p has more muted highs and fatter lows. In other words the M11p sounds “beefier” and the M11 more “clickier”.

I do own the M11p and love the sound of I sometimes wish it was quieter in some situations.

It’s not just the sound level, but also the frequency distribution… and there is a distinct difference in these recordings with this M11 having a bit more top end (treble) compared to this M11-P

Great video as always. I think the perfect continuation for this video would be a comparison to other M models with different shutters (like the m10, m10-p, m-p240, etc..) or even other cameras.

Interesting video, even though for practical purposes there is no difference. I wonder why the loudness varies from click to click. Maybe it's just an indication of how sensitive the meter is.

I’d prefer a M11-P for its discrete styling and the wonderful top engraving, but I do find my Leica M11 is extremely quiet. Obviously if it really mattered you could always use an electronic shutter.

I think I would’ve done the lens mounted test without the lens cap (who goes out shooting with a lens cap on?) and maybe a more common lens like a 35 Summilux or 50 Summicron. But still nice to see. By and large the shutter sound is basically the same, I would like to see a test between the M10 vs. M11 and M10-P vs. M11-P though.

Really interesting, thanks for taking time to do these measurements. I’m wondering what the perceived sound level would be at a typical distance from a portrait subject, or 0.7m the minimum focus distance for most lenses with rangefinder as worst case practical scenario.

I am a bit curious, you review Fuji, Hasselblad, Nikon, Panasonic and Leica cameras which all have Sony sensors ! So why do you not review Sony Cameras !?
