Leica M11-P vs M10-R - Can I Keep Only One?

I promised myself I would sell my Leica M10-R to afford the new M11-P, but now I face a dilemma. Which camera would you choose for your photography journey? Unlike Canon, Nikon or Sony cameras that I have upgraded, my Leica rangefinders are hard to let out of my grasp. Many photographers criticize Leica (it doesnt do or doesnt have this or that for the price they charge etc). I was one of them. Then while trying to change Leica, Leica ended up changing ME as a photographer. Where other brands accommodated my ignorance Leica made me realize how bad I was at photography. I have used pretty much every brand for the last 20 years shooting magazine covers etc. so im not new to this. And Leica made me realize I know nothing about photography. Thats my story. ;) thank you

I can't sell my older cameras to purchase a new unit, I fall in love with each camera.

I wish I’d kept my M10-R. The colours are much nicer than the M11 series.

Totally agree, I have a M10 R Black Paint and M11 M.

I would never give up my M10 R for any future model. Fantastic camera with a retro feel that is slightly lost in the M11 in my opinion.

Long time crop Fuji user - just picked up my first real rangefinder a Leica M9. It's so fun to shoot, no live view is a huge learning curve for me, I've always had a preview of what I was going to get before the shot. M9 sensor has a pretty cool look to it.

I feel the same way about my M8, despite having an M10 (and an SL2) I can't bring myself to get rid of what is technically a much lesser camera. But that M8 sensor does have some magic and it was my first M

Yep. I have the M10M which was a game-changing camera for me and, although I bought the M11M, I'm keeping both. Anyway, you need a back-up M body if you ever have to lose the camera for a while to have the rangefinder recalibrated. I couldn't bear to part with my M8 either

Thanks for the video. I would love the M11P but if I can find the 10R for a good deal I'll spring for that.

Stick to one camera, the one you feel most connected to.

Keeping both was always your only choice. Congrats.

Help my Leica M11- P has been great for 6 months until now. The camera will turn on and you can see the red arrows in the view finder. You hear the shutter click. And I can access the photos on the internal storage via me Leica App.

However nothing else works. The screen is black. The menus won't come up. Nothing seems to work. I was able to update the firmware via the Leica Fotos app. However when it was done it said "operating tempertaure high continuous shooting disabled" in red. Then the screen went completely black again.

I've tried charging the battery, removing the battery, hard reset (which didn't work). Nothing seems to help.

Anyone know what to do?

I did not sell my SL2 when I purchased the SL3. I am keeping my M10M even though I am buying the M11M. This way I always have backup.

My predicament also. Bought a M10 mono on the pretext of selling either a Rolleiflex TLR or Hasselblad V series. Love them all though!

Was the issue with the magenta cast solved on the M11-P?

Power bricks are not allowed on airplanes. Batteries are hard to get. If I Wanted an electronic camera, Nikon is half the price and lenses 1/4. Furthermore the final pics look the same . Also they can be set so the shutter does not shake the camera, ie only electrons move. Nikon repair turn around time is two week, not four months.

Having an MP11 as your primary camera makes a backup unit a must.

Smart move! I bought a new M4 brand back in 1974 and I still use it today. Last year, I bought an M11 and I'm using it more. I love both cameras though..

Thanks for this video. I feel exactly the same way about the same situation. Love my black M11’s lightweight body and the larger battery but I too decided to hold onto my M10r as a backup and second camera body; the M10r has been 100% reliable, makes wonderful images, it’s rangefinder is spot on, and it’s been my companion for a number of years. Battery life with my M10r can be its weakest point but after buying/selling a few M10* cameras over the years, I’ve ended up with 8 batteries for my R so I’m should be good for now. Thanks again!

Great video! Any problems with M11 freezing ? And easy scratch on the black color?
