I Sold (Almost) Everything and Flew to Korea

My daughter and I are spending this school year traveling. Korea is our first destination. We'll be spending three months in Seoul. I decided I didn't want to keep an apartment in the US or put a bunch of stuff in storage, so I got rid of as much as possible. I sold or donated almost everything before we took off on this adventure.

Getting rid of all our stuff was stressful and absolutely chaotic. There were a few moments where I thought I would never be able to get it all done before our flight. Miraculously, I managed to get rid of everything, complete all the required prep for entering Korea, and pack our entire lives into four suitcases and two backpacks.

Now we're here in Seoul, and we're ready for the adventure of a lifetime.

What an exciting adventure. It's always stressful planning and taking care of business before heading out for a great adventure. Well worth it:)

I absolutely understand all the feelings you must have went through in the lead up to your trip. In late summer 2005, I packed up a few bags, and headed to the ROK, though I went alone. In the early 2000s, the Internet was still pretty basic and there wasn't a lot of information on Korea. I went into the unknown with a lot less information, but that kind of added to the mystery/excitement. What was supposed to be a year long trip ended up being over 13.5 years.

Was just talking to a guy who lived and taught in South Korea. Koreans are wonderful hard working people. But you as an American foreigner will have a unique experience because you are not Korean. You may feel isolated and have some significant culture shock Don't mean to be negative. But be prepared. Hope it works out for you.

I cannot begin to tell you the level of admiration I have for you. You are so brave. I would like to do things, but fear always keep me back. I will follow your adventures, can't wait for the vlogs to upload. Much love from the Republic of Panama.
