This was so helpful thank you! I love topstitching too BUT I never thought to use regular thread in the bobbin and had trouble with tensions before so I'll definitely be using that tip in the future! Also it's true about topstitching needles - to be careful about whether your fabric is too fine for them! I used a 12 topstitching thread on silk and I could SEE the holes - I was so annoyed :)

Hi I love your videos! I didn’t know another person apart from my husband that couldn’t tell left or right correctly. He is left handed and I assumed that was the reason. He also has trouble in opening things or working with screws and I have to help him start some jobs.

Great tips but can I just clarify when you talk about using two threads on the top of the machine to topstitch, do you just thread the two threads through a single needle ?

First off, I love your accent! Second, what number is the jeans sewing needle? I am trying to sew with a Schmetz 16/100 with very poor results... (the thread I'm using is YLI Jeans Stitch). I would appreciate any tips!

When I used a front loading bobbin, I bought a second bobbin case that I adjusted the tension on. I didn't want to take the chance of messing up my original.

my topstitch gets sunked into the fabric what do i do ? im using a 20 number thread and 50 at the bobbin and an 18 number needle?

There is also the #10 edge-stitch foot for Bernina machines. I have both, the #5 and #10, it's worth having both. The #10 has a blade in the center of one-third of the foot to guide the stitches, where as the #5's blade is two-thirds the length of the foot. Perfect top-stitching, understitching of facings, stitch-in-the-ditch, double-folded hems, pleats, pintucks, lace and trim insertion, any stitching, including decorative, that the foot can ride an edge or a seam.

I never knew there were top stitch needles I was so disappointed after buying jeans top stitch gold thread, it hated being in bobbin and wouldn’t get through eye of the needle.

I struggle with right and left identification as well. I can imagine a pencil in my writing hand and know that is right though.
