The part of the manga where Loid’s past is told reminds me so much of stories I heard from my grandparents about their experiences of war. It was scary.

Some people who hate this anime because they think it's just comedy w/o a plot needs to realize that it is way darker than they think. And the fact that the message about or relevant to the war of this series is just so realistic, and can be bound to what's already happening right now in the world.
