So I finished the anime and started the manga and where it talks about her while they are in the orphanage it says " she had been made this by an accident, an unintended consequence of research experiments led by a certain organization that she had later escaped from" Part of me wonders if it is meant to be taken literally, like she was an artificial being or if its just the sentence structure speaking about her existence of her telepathy. Since we know so little about it, probably not meant to be literal though since later in both the anime and manga we see her crying during the interview when they ask about her previous mother
