You are a national treasure for your country and not many know it, I bet. With your knowledge the military could be hiring you to train their soldiers in surviving in the wilderness in Winter, and Summer. That is a nice tip on how to use the empty lighter to start a fire and one I had not seen before.

Yellow Duct Tape is also a nice way of marking dark colored items, so they don't get lost. I've also used reflective tape (like the kind at auto parts stores).

Frankly, I have no confidence in my ability to make this work, particularly under a dire emergency when time may be of the essence. However, today I took an old, dead Bic and used it to spark some frizzed up jute twine. Fairly quickly, the twine was burning away, and I used that to light a candle which would've burned for hours if I'd let it. No plastic tank scraping necessary if you have a short length of jute twine. I always include it in my kits along with a stub of candle. Many thanks.
