Everything catches fire when it’s doused in gasoline. And no, you don’t need a stone. Sandpaper will work just as well.

It’s mostly the angle of attack, force of pressure, and speed of the back of the blade when striking the Magnesium bar/Flint (Look at the differences during the 1st strike compared to the 2nd).

Sharpening or filing the surface of the knife spine does little to nothing except redefine a worn down/rounded edge caused by extreme use & is not necessary to throw sparks like this with most blades

I use a dremel with a sanding drum followed by a high grit grinding stone or a mill file.
