Dragon Ball Super messed up. Goku and Vegeta got new outfits in Resurrection F that were quickly abandoned in favor of going back to Cell Saga style outfits that are just nostalgia bait.

One thing people don't mention about Vegeta's fit specifically, is that because its gray, when he uses Super Saiyan Blue, his clothes appear blue like his classic armor because of his aura

The only reason Vegeta didn't wear armor in the Buu saga is because armor wasn't allowed in the tournament. This is directly addressed in the story.

Zamasu was questioning about enlightenment and barbarians and Goku arrived in a gi with kanzi saying "Enlightenment"
The enlightenment kanji on Goku's gi IS hidden message that Goku is the ideal mortal is actually pretty brilliant

Vegeta’s buu arc jumpsuit will always be my favorite as well. It fits him so well. Sometimes simple is better and that’s definitely the case with Vegeta.

what aggravated me so much about how quickly these outfits were dropped is they didn't even keep them in FighterZ. When they insisted on having Blue forms be separate character slots at launch. When these perfectly good outfits, practically tailor made for Blue, already existed. Just why?

Something I like about Goku’s resurrection F outfit is the lack of weighted training gear underneath the Gi. Having that used to be a thing that mattered, where he’d take it off when things got “serious” but, he stopped doing that a while ago and I highly doubt the weighted clothing does anything for him anymore, so it was a neat little detail to have it removed.

I agree with most of it. One thing is Vegeta didn’t abandon his armor in the Buu arc. He was intentionally preparing to fight in the world tournament, but they won’t allow armor, hence why Gohan switch from helmet to durag

I mean the "traditional armor" WAS designed by Bulma based off the armor he had on Namek (they are two visually different armors)

Ultra Instinct with Goku only having the blue part of his outfit because the orange broke actually goes pretty hard though, and we wouldn't have that if they were using the more orange one

Vegeta's look during the Buu Saga was top tier. The cell saga saiyan armor is cool and all, but they've used it too damn much in the entire series.

This may be a hot take, but I do prefer the traditional Goku outfit over the Res. F. One, because it just looks strange without the blue shirt under it. But that doesn't mean it's bad, because I do really like the boots, I just wished it had the blue shirt under (kinda like SDBH Goku having a new Gi with the shirt). As for Vegeta, the black is PEAK

These outfits should have been their permanent ones for super, not only are they unique to super but like you said show character significance and help show off super saiyan blue by reducing the amount of blue present on the characters.
