Text to Number Format Formula in Excel - Excel Quickie 77

Simple way to convert a number stored as text to a number stored as an actual number in Excel.

This shows you how to keep the original data in tact by using a helper column in the worksheet.

This technique is very helpful when you want to sort or otherwise analyze a data set, particularly when you put it into a Pivot Table.

Nice one! Another very simple way to convert text numbers to true values is with the double unary or "--". So, if you have a text number in Cell C4 and in E4 you make the formula =--C4, the true number value will be entered in E4. The double unary acts the same as multiplying or dividing by 1. It can come in handy in long formulas, as well. Thanks for sharing your tips.. always fun to learn something new :)) Thumbs up!!
