Garry is a little foolish to think he was going to be able to get away with not adding an official sandbox mode, thats what makes gmod so fun to this day

The biggest reason I have zero desire to make anything for sandbox is just, nobody is going to play it. if I put hours of time into something, it will just get swept away in a sea of garbage of "myfirsttestgame" and other garbage like it

I really like this approach. Longer term it being funded by the revenue of the s&box platform itself does a really great job of aligning the incentives of developers and the platform - it makes developers want to make games that:
- get people on platform
- keep people on platform
- motivate players to buy cool cosmetics to show off
The end result is a really nice "rising tide" system where any game that gets more players into the ecosystem ultimately results in a bigger pie for everyone to split
I've seen other companies try this where they more artificially paid for D1 retaining games and it was never sustainable, and promoted all sorts of gaming of the system

I wonder if this monetization method would incentivisce more addicting game types and less creative games, I'm not really sure, I feel like they were pretty much forced between the two choices of either leaving monisation up to the creators or implementing some form of official system for it. It all kinda has a robloxy feel to it, and I don't know if that's really what people want out of this project, its not really what I wanted when I heard about the game back when it was made in ue4.

Why would I put effort into making content for something ordinary people can't easily access. S&box is in this limbo state of weird semi private beta.
