When patients have neck symptoms like pain and discomfort, numbness through the arms or hands. X-rays or MRIs performed may find the patient has bone spurs.

Bone spurs are growths that protect from the bone edges and can be found where bones meet the joints. They are also called osteocytes. Bone spurs do not have sharp edges; instead, they are rounded and flattened. They form the spine most commonly in the neck and lumbar spine and, on rare occasions, in the thoracic spine.

Bone spurs in the neck are commonly a result of abnormal weight bearing. Since bones are constantly renewing, osteoblasts will start creating more bone to fix the area that is unstable, which are what we call bone spurs. They most commonly occur in the front of the spine.

Bone spurs tend to be asymptomatic; they only cause pain when pressing against nerves. That is usually when you start to feel pain, tingling, and numbness. Radicular pain in the shoulders, arms, and hands. If the bone spur isn't pressing on something, it is normally painless.

Treatment of the bone spur isn't about trying to remove the bone spur but about improving the symptoms.

You may need to change your lifestyle as the symptoms can be aggravated by what you are doing that can cause the spine to shift and the bone spurs to press on the nerves.
Rest and limiting stressful activities can decrease inflammation in the area allowing more space for the nerves.
Ice and heat therapy can help relax muscles and decrease pain and reduce inflammation.

Physical therapy can be used to help strengthen the neck and relax muscles and maintain a normal range of motion.

Adjustments or techniques to help realign the spine can help.
Chiropractic techniques and adjustments can help improve mobility.

What is recommended at Scoliosis Reduction Center is proactive treatment to help get the spine to proper alignment to address the underlying cause of what's causing the bone spurs to develop to stop the ongoing degeneration of the spine. Reduction Center

i added this on another similiar site for spurs - i removed mine (hips and knees - limping and pain) by a 'thyme saturation therapy' - rubbing thyme oil on the affected area and drinking thyme tea every day (for 6 months or so) - removed completely my calcified bone spurs - i have completely eradicated my bone spurs

Hi everyone. I have a bone spur in my lower back and the doctor that I went to is a surgeon and he wants to do is grind that spur off. It’s still back surgery. What my primary doctor should have done rather than send me to him, is to tell me that my posture is causing bones spurs, and I need to correct my posture and do back strengthening exercise. The surgeon that I went to. he should’ve also said that, but of course he wants money to cut on me.I am so thrilled to know that you can do exercises or natural remedies to decrease these bone spurs, thank you very much.

Thx for the info!

To combat this i am making strength training (lift weights) with a physiotherapist. The idea is to align my cervical and all my spine by strengthening the back and stretching the pectoral muscles. After one week my neck stopped cracking and i feel i walk taller.

In the MRI my cervical discs were all black and a disc wants to connect to another. I am not letting that happening with 36yo. No no! 💪 no ego lift gym but good form is going to be for life

Thank you !
I've been in pain for yrs in my neck I've had x-ray Drs keep saying nothing is wrong with me but they say that with other things too. Any way I usually have to lay almost flat and take a Xanax and get prayer. I feel a lot of heat, sometimes I feel electric and numbing and mostly pain. The heat and tingles go down my spine. I can't stand very long or sit very long. Yea right now I'm laying flat searching answers and I've found you.

Doc i have bone spurs in my neck from an accident years ago where i broke my collar bone. I used to be able to deal with the Pain. Pain medication makes me sick. I'm afraid im going to have to have surgery because the pain is worsening. I deal with Chronic pain daily. The problem is I'm a welder and i have to wear a welding hood and im afraid its too heavy for my neck bc the more i wear it the more pain i feel. Pain shoots from one side down my arm to the other and sometimes down the spine. What can i do? Its slowly killing me.

I have bone spurs and arthritis in my neck....my symptoms are severe which started off with pain in neck, numbness in hand, as well as spikes in heart rate and blood pressure. In the last 6 months a new symptom has been red face or hot flashes (like a sun burn all over my neck and face)....then in last couple months I started getting a dull back pain and weakness in all 4 limbs as well. My symptoms come and go with changes in was curious what c level do these symptoms usually ( I know you cant be exact) occur at? for ex the red face and weakness in all limbs....thank you! great video!

Thank you for this informative video. I recently found out what is behind the numbness, tingling, and pain that radiates from my cervical region all the way down to my fingertips.

I initially thought it was a blood clot, but upon getting some scans taken, we discovered bone spurs in the C4-C7 area. They look like baby shark teeth. 🦈 Jagged/spiky. Numerous. I’m in pain everyday. 😢

I’ve been doing my own research. I would like to uncover more treatment options or ways to aid the body in creating osteoclastic activity.

I am now receiving PT treatments. Since my health insurance won’t cover Cortisone shots.

Can bone spurs in my neck cause my entire arm / hand to fall asleep and become excruciatingly painful when I sleep? This happens to me every night and I know I have them in my neck via X-rays. And I have a rolled shoulder if that causes/adds to anything.

Thank you for your information.
I assume my neck swelling on the left side where my neck and shoulder meet is inflammation from being irritated.
I have been applying ice, performing slow exercises, and wearing a collar, it helps, but the pain is almost unbearable.
I have dextroscoliosis but I didn't realize that it the reason why I am "out of whack" (professional terminology😊).
My doctor wants to know if I want trigger point injections with steroids.
I may have to do it because I am so desperate.
