OMG! You answered my question without talking for a 1/2 hour about other stuff. It totally works! You're the best. TOTALLY SUBSCRIBED. Thank you!

You deserve way more likes!!! It worked like a charm in Gmail! I had received an email full of funny pictures, but those lines!!! lol. In the forward, I highlighted all and decreased the indent. Perfect!! Thank you!!

Great tip! I don't know why Google and other famous email providers do. They lose their clients to competitors.

Doesn't seem to work with AOL. The only way I see to do it without recreating the entire email is to individually backspace each paragraph (including embedded pictures).

Try turning off “Increase quote level” I just tried this on my iPad and I think think it works
Hope it works
Thanks

Doesn't work if you have bullet/numbered lists.
Instead, copy the existing message before hitting reply, as it won't have the lines. Then reply, erase what's there, and paste what you just copied.

Hello thank you for your tutorial. Is there anyway to remove it for good? I don't like doing it in every email :--((

Yeah but then we lose 100% of the reply formatting. There is no more way to distinguish the part you're replying to.
It has been decades that this basic feature included in freewares is not present.

it should be possible to keep the vertical line for paragraphs and break it when one inserts any comment.
Equivalent to the ">" prefix in plain text.
It's hard to believe that there is no engineer at Microsoft to implement such easy basic feature (I'm a software developer since 1980 so I know it's easy).

This is not even amateurish.
