The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Nanjunethappa G. in connection with the alleged manipulation of the NEET-UG 2024 exam in Latur, Maharashtra. This brings the total number of arrests to nine. Nanjunethappa was already under investigation by the Maharashtra Police.
The case has revealed that two government school teachers in Latur were allegedly involved in demanding over ₹5 lakh from NEET-UG aspirants. The CBI's ongoing investigation has led to six arrests in Bihar for paper leakage, one in Latur for manipulation, one in Godhra, and one in Dehradun for conspiracy.
The Centre initiated the investigation following widespread concerns about malpractices during the NEET exam held on May 5. The CBI has filed six FIRs related to the case, covering paper leakage in Bihar and various forms of cheating and impersonation in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. The Union Education Ministry has called for a thorough probe into the irregularities surrounding the exam.
