Danny was a comic genius and if I ever need cheering up I put this clip on and it does the trick. It's not just Danny's brilliant vocal gymnastics and his facial features but I smile at the orchestra when they can be seen smirking. They couldn't lose really, I expect the director said don't be afraid to smile which meant it could either be at Danny Kaye's character Danny Weems stumbling through a clearly incomplete song or just being entertained by Danny Kaye the performer, adding comedic brilliance to their excellent playing. The other thing that makes me laugh is I try to imagine Danny at home with his wife, Sylvia Fine, who wrote his skits and what sort of conversation they would have had and she probably said, "Right honey, I'm just going to put in the script the words 'de-dit-dat-giddle-um' (or something like that) and you do the rest"
