Cost to build our Barndominium

Cost to build our barndominium! Is it more or less than you were expecting?

We bought 20 acres of raw land in North Idaho and have spent the last 4 years building our dream property. Our DIY barndominium was our first big project and took us 547 days to complete.

Would it be helpful to see a price breakdown of this $61k?

Somehow I find that hard to believe even doing it by yourself. The concrete foundation had to if cost at least 20 grand. But hey if you did all that for just over 60 k. My hats off to ya. Great job.

I'm proud for this young family, But all in they spent way more than this. WAY. MORE. THAN. THIS.
THE POWER SYSTEM ALONE APPROACHED ALMOST $50K
Add the septic. Add the water.
Add the land. Add the heavy equipment.

(There is also no dollar amount included for their sweat equity)
My time isn't worth 0$.

I dont even think ypu can do that only material. 20k slab 10k roof prob another 10k in insulation 15k in windows and doors, bathroom 5k kitchen like 8k ish low end, 1500 square feet of lvp at 4 a square 6k thats 66 ish without siding and framing lumber.

Everything in life comes with tradeoffs, location, regulations, hired out labor, equipment rentals, and utilities. It all comes down to time and money. Certainly this place will cost more if you had made more of those tradeoffs and utilities are a pay now for your own system or pay over time to be connected to one. Very nice place and work. Keep it up.

Does that cost include price of the fixtures? Cause I see some pretty expensive items, like the garage door and it's opener, the smart toilet, the glass shower surround. Is this a pole barn build or slab on grade? I can see doing this build for $61, 000, but not including fixtures and pricey upgrades. Not including cabinets, unless you build them yourself.

Frame, exterior, roof, and concrete maybe. Then another 100k to finish it

NOPE. you forget 150k: 50k for land and 100k "free" labor you contributed (4, 000 hours of labor for yourself at $25 an hour).

That is deceiving. House builds include plumbing and electric and septic and closets and counters and toilet and shower and all that is necessary to make it work. I doubt you included the built in storage in the “garage” and the cost of the solar set up and the well and water treatment etc!

And at the same time, three times smaller houses in cities cost like half a mil.. This is way better!
