Companies have gotten really good at making you buy things you don't need. What do you think?

"The things you owe, end up owning you."
This statement made me wanted to quit my smartphone, but I know that it would be craziness, as I use it to study and nobody in my circle can provide me any possibility of studying better than it can. I only need is a reeducation to be able to enjoy the amazing things that this device has to offer me and to do not fall in those well-known mind traps out in the internet and, even more scaring, the real world.

Agreed. The high or excitement we get from from shopping and acquiring new items, are similar to the sensations resulting from psychological stimulants, sexual stimulants… A result of our neurons being excited by dopamine.

Unfortunately, neurons would die if they’re over stimulated or excited. So, we evolved a self protection mechanism. After repeated stimulant exposure such as rush of dopamine, neurons will become less reactive to such excitation.

This is why many people need to buy more and more, just to experience a fraction of the high they once felt. Addictions to shopping, recognition, power, sex, even drugs share something in common.

I love the themes you incorporate into your videos and it really brings to light the things people try ignore, which is interesting to me. Thx :)

Yup we are truly being played manipulated and so on and so forth majority aren’t consumers of their own products. When you buy something expensive 90% of that price is going towards the logo rather than the product.

its quite interesting to know that my mental disability makes me effectively immune to neuromarketing. trying to market to me through my senses is simply going to make me shut down and buy nothing.
edit: there are studies done. the disabilities im talking about is neurodivergency, which includes autism, adhd and a few others.

Even if we already know all this it is good to have it refreshed in your mind.

Jokes on you, I'm too broke to buy stuff I don't need

The knowledge that these companies would try to hijack my decision-making process to sell more stuff just makes me less likely to give them my money.

As someone who is currently studying marketing as my degree, I've been surprised to see how much marketing and psychology tie in together especially with concepts regarding consumer behavior and behavioral economics. It's telling how manipulative marketing is and even one of my professors who's been within the digital marketing industry for 30+ years to say how marketing is essentially exploitation. Great video about neuromarketing though, super interesting!

Beautiful presentation as always. That internet sunbscription example would have been better with how apple iphones almost always comes in 3 flavours (Price wise). A really expensive one, a not relatively cheap one and the middle ground (best/most popular option) that sales. This makes it look like we are getting a bang for our buck when it was intentionally designed for us to look at relative pricing. This strategy is employed in almost all products nowadays.

What a dystopian world we have in front of us. Black Mirror has been true all the time.
