Classic VW Types explained

Classic VW Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, what are they? How do we distinguish a VW Beetle to a Karmann Ghia, Thing, and others? What is the difference between a Kombi and a Microbus? Is a T1 and T2 referring to Types? And what in the world is a Type 3?

I try and answer these questions and more in this research project I undertook, to help me understand the interesting and sometimes complicated world of Classic VW Types.

more than likely I have made errors or missed something, so if you have any further information, please comment 👍

No Kûbelwagen, it was produced in more quantity than the Schwimmwagen and is different to the Thing. There's also the Kommandeurswagen which is a 4WD Beetle produced during the war. Nice images indeed.
