There was a rawness and energy to Jimi's sound back then that just blew us all away. We had heard nothing like it and suddenly anything else seemed just a bit pedestrian. The world changed forever .

I heard the Jimi Hendrix Experience from outside Cafe Wha, in NYC in June 1967, two weeks before the Monterey Festival performance. I was a 16-year-old runaway and underage to get in. They left the doors open for everyone on the street. Something I'll never forget.

amazing this exists, from the chitlin circuit to london, this is the transformation, the break jimi had been waiting for, and he didn't just open the door, he kicked it in.

When Jimi was playing gigs you felt compelled to be there if it was at all possible, almost like you knew it wouldn’t - indeed couldn’t - last. These recordings are amazing… his playing has such a raw intensity that it literally leaves you awestruck!

The Who were also on the bill AND The Beatles were in the audience that night!

I so wish this and other of Jimi's first club shows were filmed and recorded properly. What fantastic moments in musical time!! Just to see the looks on the audiences faces would be priceless.

I was there and have the photos to prove it, I didn’t realise the Beatles and Eric Clapton were there as well!

Obviously, Hendrix was a preternatural talent, but keep in mind how much blues he lived and how much WORK he put in before he became famous. He was constantly working as a sideman in other people's bands, busting his ass,
AND he lived and breathed guitar playing, constantly PRACTICING/PLAYING his guitar. Now add to all THAT he possessed massive hands and long fingers are necessary to navigating the fretboard like he did.

Hendrix played at Brian Epstein's Saville Theatre several times in 1967.I saw one in june when he famously launched into St Pepper.
The Move and Pink Floyd were also on that night. Purple Times indeed .
