Most of that audience were not ready for the sheer insanity of Jimi Hendrix turning his guitar into a flamethrower for Seven and a half minutes. Little did they know they were experiencing one of the greatest moments in all of rock and roll history.

He came to Monterey as a rumor and left as a legend!!!

You’re watching the greatest guitar player ever at perhaps his greatest show ever, and the audiences reaction looks like they’re at a funeral.

Behold a moment in history that will never be repeated. The right talent in the right place at the right time

Even the noise generated by burning a guitar becomes music when Jimi does it. It's a proof of genius.

"I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it."

I love that they filmmakers didn’t care that most of the audience shots were from the daytime when this permanence was at night.

Not only was he a great guitarist. His manipulation of feedback. Playing complete chords with one hand. Behind his back. With his teeth. Then the showmanship. He f....s the amps. Jacks the guitar off. Then sets it on fire with the amps wide open making these weird electrical sounds. Brilliant

When he hits that first chord it sets off a sonic boom in my soul. Feels good!!

there's just something about that crackle of lofi analog amplification and distortion that's somehow timeless and raw.

Incredible. The young woman shaking her head in disbelief at the end as if to say "what is happening?" speaks volumes. Clapton had granted his request in 1966 to play during a performance by Cream in London, and recalled that, "He walked off, and my life was never the same again."

Amazing how he could take an ordinary pop song and turn it psychedelic!

Funny, a black dude that knew more about what Rock and Roll should be then most white music artists ever did. And I Loved every minute of it !!! RIP Jimi Hendrix, RIP !!!

Even in the year 2525 this will be so far ahead of its time. Hendrix was a master. 🎸

Jimmy Hendrix's performance and interpretation of "Wild Thing" at this concert is the wildest thing that the world has seen.

Love how he quotes "Strangers in the Night" in the middle of his lead. Reminds me how Eric Clapton quotes "Blue Moon" in Sunshine of Your Love.
