Whenever I get the urge to trade in my 10 yr old Yaris for a new, nicer car, I watch a Scotty video and he slaps my silly idea away.

You’re a good man, Scotty Kilmer. When you die, you’ll leave behind a legacy. You and your family will take comfort and pride in knowing you actually made the world a better place to live.

Scotty, I too am an ASE master auto tech (retired and disabled). I too eat and breath cars. I also taught in the high schools and post secondary schools. I admire what you do to inform the public honestly. Keep being you.

I like how Mazda evolved over the years the new Mazda 6 and 3 and even the SUV's are great looking, handling and reliable cars.

I bought an 05 Mazda 3 hatchback with 177 k miles for $700 last year, it needed a new clutch kit, master cylinder and slave cylinder and a couple sensors.
I'm in about $1500 with the cost of the car, parts and labor.
Took a gamble on the car and so far so good!

Scotty dispensing some good ol' college of common sense knowledge! I think I'll hold on to my 20 yr. old Crown Vic Panther with 160k... still drives like new!

Hi Scotty, as a former Mazda technician, my experience with the Mazda Protege was one of very few transmission warranty or CP claims. The effected cars with the associated transmission issues were the 626, mx-6, and 929. Basically the effected cars were the car built at the Flat Rock, Michigan plant. The car built in the Hiroshima, plant were pretty much bullet proof, save the Rx-7. That includes the millenias, mx-3, and Proteges.

That Mazda is amazing, runs like new! Definitely a keeper, every day she runs that thing she is in effect saving money, just change the oil, keep up with basic maintenance and I bet it will go another 50, 000 miles! When it goes kapput then buy a Toyota!
