2024 Jaguar F-TYPE R v Lexus LC 500 Comparison | All hail the mighty V8!

This is a direct comparison between two luxury coupes but it’s one tinged with sentimentality, because it’s also a tribute to the engines that are such a huge part of their appeal.

What exactly will power the successors of the Jaguar F-TYPE and Lexus LC 500 – if indeed there are successors – isn’t yet known, but we can guarantee it won’t be eight cylinders, either supercharged (Jaguar) or naturally-aspirated (Lexus).

As such, this is a great opportunity to celebrate two of the most evocative V8s ever fitted to a road car, as well as tell which of these two stylish two-doors is the pick.

I’m an Aussie that lives in the US. Back in 2021, I looked at both and decided on the F-Type R convertible (which I’m not sure is available in Oz). The Lexus is very nice, but the raw power of the Jag is intoxicating. So far in the 3 years I’ve owned it, the Jag has been trouble free and has only had its scheduled services (which are included for 5 years or 50k miles). I should add that I very much like Lexus and have a ‘22 LS500 luxury edition as well.

Jag F Type owner here…my six years with the car has resulted in no issues whatsoever….if you spend a bit of time on owner’s forums, you’ll see my experience is quite typical. Do agree the Lexus is gorgeous, but I’m quite happy with my F thanks very much.

A welcome comparison, thanks. I would buy the Lexus if I had the money, for the overall.package. One must view the Lexus as a sporty GT - purchasers buying it as a sports car might be left wanting. I don't mind the Jag but would probably cross shop it with the 911.

F-type awd v6 tuned to 475hp, better sound actually imho (1970's F1 sound). No issues at 65k miles. I put metal coolant tubes on it to prevent the one known issue. Used, F-types are amazing deals. Best deal on the market by far.

I'll be trading my Lexus RCF for the LC500 later this year. I considered the F-Type for a minute, but notice a lot them sitting in Lexus pre-owned lots. Both are beautiful rides, but having driven both the LC is way more comfortable. The LC is a GT car and gets amazing mpg on long trips for a V8. He should have reviewed the hard-top instead of the convertible. The hard-top with Dynamic Handling package is a better experience for comparison. The convertible is heavier and lacks some features due the roof mechanisms. Many folks in the car group have gone from the Jag to the Lexus for whatever reason.

Why compare a soft top and a hard top. Makes no sense

Great review! I still prefer the original design of the F-Type. I'd have the 2wd version too. Keep up the great content!

‘16 f type owner here.. 65K miles, no major issues. I did a lot of research on forums and stayed on top of maintenance intervals. Still look back at it every time I park😂

For quality, and RELIABILITY it’s 100% the LEXUS.

I always like the sound coming out of the F-Type 😍

Drove the Jag and the LC500 (coupe)... The Jag is a brutal unrefined animal. The Lexus is all class, smooth and silk. The interior of the Jag looks like it belongs in a Chinese car. Spare parts on the Jag like brake pads will make your bank manager rich.

Great job Scott, as ever a thorough review of the bits and pieces, and worthwhile driving insights.

The LC is not divisive in the slightest it’s stunning since the moment it was launched. Shame it’s not depreciated much.

I like that, Jag! The Lexus is pretty, but not in the same way as the Jaguar. How come we can't have Lexus quality with the Jags body?

Both have such lovely V8s, what's not to love 🔥

One big difference. That raggedy jag is going to spend 90% of his time in the shop. That Lexus is solid as a rock.

This is not “plastic fake metal” !! It is brushed aluminum in the interior of the Lexus. Get your facts straight. What about mentioning the Jag’s infotainment screen that looks so dated.
In regard to the touch pad of the older LC model, I got used to it and I do prefer the cleaner look of the dash over the new one. The only thing I wish my 2018 coupe has, is a front facing camera.

Only comments I see are people talking about the f types reliability as if they’ve ever owned an f type let alone even sit in one.

As people who do buy these sublime cars for the sheer pleasure of driving, the great styling and engines ... do you really think we're going to care about a heads-up display?

I barely touch these things
