2022 Jaguar F-Type R review by The Straight Pipes. The Jaguar F Type R is putting down 575 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque from a Supercharged 5L V8. At $136,760 CAD, would you take it over the Porsche 911, Lexus LC500?

It is just styled so well. Not a line out of place, no extra weird scoops, no bulges that don’t belong. It’s subdued and classic. This car will look great in 50 years, and it’s an instant classic.

I drove test the XF-R with the same insane engine back like 10 years ago when it first came out. Insane engine. I remember how loud it was and that was supposed to be a luxury sedan. Bro, the rear passangers couldn't take more than 15mins, that's how loud it was. Such an insane engine!

I drove a convertible F-Type right when they released. Thing feels brutal, went from 45-130 in the blink of an eye. Also, the exhaust note was visceral. Awesome car but I’d be hard pressed to EVER spend near 100K on one of these. Their resale is indicative of that. This is something you lease for 3 years and never worry about ever again.

The styling is sedated but strong…the performance goes ALL in!

The shape of this car is the best they’ve ever done. And the sound of that exhaust is pretty damn good too.

FYI you can retrofit car play with a module from UAD. Did my '16 R and it really modernized the interior. Also, the V8 engines are the same from V8 base to R spec. ECU tuning is what determines final HP/TQ output. If you really want to unleash the potential of this car in any of the V8 variations, order the power kit from Velocity AP: Downpipes, upper and lower supercharger pulleys combined with their tune will net you 660 HP in any of the V8 platforms. Cheers

Pro tip, if you pull Fuse 15 from the engine fuse box, it will permanently leave the car in full exhaust open! Super simple fix to the valve issue and it completely opens the car up.

Comments from an F-Type SVR owner:
1. Thank you for your review of the last gen SVR. You are indirectly responsible for my hooning and shenanigans.
2. The SVR didn't/never had launch control. My best guess is that the transmission was a limiting factor.
3. Speaking of transmission, thank you for highlighting this magnificent hardware. I have the same ZF unit in my '20 Ram where it's equally as good. The transmission in both vehicles is ALWAYS in the right gear in auto mode, and responsive in manual mode.
4. My dark gray with black trim and black wheels SVR is def a coug magnet. When they see that I'm a young guy in his 30's, they always crack a smile.
5. Why do the many reviews on the F-Type never mention the air-adjustable bolstering on the seats!? That functionality makes it one of the best luxury seats of any vehicle (although not quite as high tech as the S Class.)
6. To any of the disparaging comments and naysayers, I'll just say this: the F-Type R and SVR is a drivers car. The sounds, acceleration, steering, braking, etc make this thing a visceral sledgehammer. I almost bought a 911T because of the precision of engineering and razor sharp speed and handling. However, the Porsche lacks in panache and drama compared to this car. Almost every car these days needs to be going 100 mph before you feel emotions. This car feels like its fast at 50 mph. At 150, you're high on your own emotions. Yes, this thing will drop like a rock in value, but I knew that going in, so I don't care. Cars will never be made like this again. In other words, reserve judgment before actually driving this thing.

Thanks, Yuri & Jacob! Always entertaining!

I love the new F-type jags, but I'll always have a special place in my heart for the XK-R in blue!

I wouldn’t say Jaguar is my favourite car manufacturer by any means, but god damn, this thing is legitimately a work of art.

I still thank you two fellows from the bottom of my heart for your video on the 2018 F-Type SVR, of which I had been looking at a convertible version in the "Victory Blue/ French Racing Blue" for nearly 6 months. Your awesome fun video was the clincher that convinced me to buy it, and I haven't regretted a second or a penny about it since. The sound of that engine and exhaust more than makes up for the weak Meridian sound system. (and yes, doing the pop/click trick is very addictive) . After driving it, my face literally hurts from all the smiling I do. And Yes, Jake; It's a Cougar Magnet. More than once I've seen a lovely lady checking out my ride on the highway, and occasionally some fellow's wife riding shotgun, who then will get a dirty look from her husband and they'll pass me fast. The ladies all smile, though. Maybe it's just the colour. ?

Yuri, the Barbie car you bought your daughter is an XJ-S V-12. My mum had one back in '86. Nice little sport-tourer, and very smooth riding.

Thanks so much for all of your content, and please keep up the good work.

I wish they still had a manual available like the first gen, even though it was only offered on V6 models. The manual on the previous gen was the missing piece. Its so much better than the auto.

Ever since Jeremy Clarkson reviewed the F-Type way back when, this car has been and always will be my dream car

The first gen with a manual will always be my favorite.. I'd love one in silver (bond car) or in green.

I have the 2016 R AWD with all the snap, crackle and pops. Love it, my favourite car by a long shot.

I pulled the trigger on a low-mile 2016 R coupe about two months ago. I gotta say I love driving again! One of my favorite things to do is roll down the windows and drop down a couple gears when going under overpasses on the freeway. The noise is like the sound version of going to plaid -- it's beyond ludicrous! The front is a bit understated and can be confused for other cars so it can be a bit of a sleeper for those who don't know their power. The rear-end is drop-dead gorgeous and unmistakable. It's an affordable(ish) super-car that is just exotic enough to turn heads from car guys. If the looks don't turn them the unapologetic roar coming out of the exhaust pipes will.
