They’re making fun of him because he basically went to a fancy steakhouse and was like yeah give me the cheeseburger

They were clueless that there was such a culture gap between Italians and Americans of Italian descent. These people thought they were all idiots

Love when Pauly gets dissed. He dishes out so much crap for others, fun to see it come back around.😊

I love this episode. In a show that almost encourages the Italian-American stereotype, this episode poked fun at all the “100% Italians” in America and made it clear that there is a stark difference between Italian Americans and native Italians.

Paulie thought they were talking about interior decorators.

I come from a huge Italian family. They’re SO proud of their heritage. It’s their entire identity. None of them have actually been there 🤣.

Italian-American is an Americanized version of a very outdated Italian heritage that no Italian associates with anymore. And most of their "Italianisms" were created by immigrants and changed through generations. The two cultures are worlds aparts now.

I'm a 55-year-old 2nd generation Italian-American and lived with a huge Italian family, both from New York and from Italy. Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and birthdays were easily 100 people gathering at Nana and Papa's house. And never once in my entire life have I heard the word, "gravy", unless you were putting it on biscuits in the morning or your stuffing at Thanksgiving. That is, until I watched The Sopranos in 1999 and fell out of my chair at wtf he was saying.

I have never in my life ever heard someone refer to ragu or marinara as gravy

I'm Italian and I can confirm they were eating "spaghetti al nero di seppia" it's a expensive and delicious dish. By asking to have a simple pasta with tomato sauce brought you just make yourself look like an ignorant person who doesn't know how to appreciate good food, and you know how much we care, an ordinary waiter would have left pissed off and the cook even more so. That's why they told him he was classless.
